Every person who runs a marathon knows that a mantra is necessary to push you through those long miles. I didn't have one until this gem of a quote ended up in my inbox courtesy of Real Simple.com. On my long run Tuesday morning, I repeated it over and over again and found 9 miles to be surprisingly pleasant.
Last night we had our orientation for our Practicum and Internship. Not only did it hit me that the last two years have been one long run but that the next year is going to be my marathon. I've been prepping for two years to prove my worth. As much as I am nervous that I know nothing, I have been supported by friends and family and professors who believe in my abilities.
At dinner after class, we were talking about graduation and I stated that timing/flight costs may make it hard for my whole family to all be there and that it wasn't that big of a deal to me. My friend said that she actually thinks a Master's degree is a big deal, even bigger than a Bachelors. I sat back and thought about it for a minute and decided I actually agreed. I've worked my butt off working mostly full time and taking a full (and sometimes way too full) course load. Marching in graduation will be a pretty cool experience. Not that getting my Bachelor's wasn't but I've worked harder in two years than I did in all four of undergrad.
I was wide awake at 4:30 am today because I am nervous and anxious about my 18 mile run on Saturday and my first day of internship Tuesday. Hopefully I can remember that running a marathon is not easy and to give myself credit for even attempting it and that after two years of training I am as ready as I can be for what adventures my internship brings!
Your quote rings true. A good mantra, too. Good luck on your journey. I recall my student counseling experience to be very fulfilling and growth producing. I wish you much abundance and joy along the way.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your well wishes!
ReplyDeleteGood Luck for your first day of internship! I am excited to continue to read your blog. I am also a counseling intern! Maybe we can bounce ideas off of each other!
